Protesters shout anti-US slogan during a rally near the US embassy in Manila on September 16, 2011. Protesters are calling for an end to the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) as part of the 20th year commemoration of the closing down of US bases in the country. The US military set up their naval and air presence in 1901 and 1903 respectively as they took colonial control of the Philippines, with Subic becoming the repair and supply yard of the US 7th Fleet that ruled the Pacific.
