Cupid detained.
It took a while for me to pick the best photo from this year's Valentine's Day selection, but the notion of the police actually arresting people for selling balloons in the street... Well, it speaks for itself, doesn't it?
I will say, Pakistan is making some interesting evolutions with respect to that most unholy Holiday—Contrary to our picture above, if one judges solely by the wire service photos, Valentine's Day is quite popular with the women of Pakistan. It's a step in the right direction, as far as I can tell.
I do find it amusing to point out that the same* Islamists who were burning the heck out of Valentine's Day three years ago have found a new and exciting reason to celebrate the esteemed tradition: Honoring murderers.
What's not to like about that?
Pakistani police transport detained roadside balloons vendors on St. Valentine's Day in Islamabad on February 14, 2011. In Pakistan some extremist groups see the increasing popularity of Valentine's Day among the affluent youth as immoral westernisation .
