Using Any Excuse

Whether it's Salman Rushdie or Kashmir or Valentine's Day... or apparently, Julian Assange, the quiet citizens of Pakistan seem to have only one reaction:

Pakistani protesters hold flags of the United States and Britain before setting them on fire to condemn the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in London, during a protest in Multan, Pakistan on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010. (AP Photo/Khalid Tanveer)

Is Pakistan really a country full of angry-faced peasants who spend 99% of their time finding random flags to burn?

Judging by the photo wire coverage of that country, I'd have to say that all signs point to "yes."

Too bad the photograph was published by the wire service I wouldn't mind seeing on fire, otherwise I'd be able to show it to you directly.
