He was undoubtedly the king of fashion.

The austere scene, highlighted by a solemn pose, makes this photograph a rather striking illustration of everything that could go well in Afghanistan over the coming months. Or wrong.

Either way, Reuters stringer Abdul Malik does an excellent job of capturing this odd sidebar in history, in which some of the Taliban either willingly join the painful growth of Afghanistan's democratic government, or usurp it.

No matter which way things turn out, at least they will have done so in style.
