Joe Biden discussing a Recovery Act-supported bridge rehabilitation in Manhattan:
"Here's the deal. This and the Golden Gate Bridge are the two most recognized bridges in the entire United States of America, among the two most recognized bridges in the world. To be here, to be able to be part of helping restore this iconic bridge is a pretty neat thing," said Biden. "This project symbolizes nearly 1,200 bridge projects that are underway under the American Reinvestment Act."
Sounds nifty, right? "Preserving history" and all?
Well, I'm sure you will be delighted to know that the Federal Government's contribution to the project is a mere $30 million, which is a pittance compared to Manhattan's $286 million allocation, but by Biden, it's money well spent.
So what does the American public get for this $316 million "job-creating" project?
To paraphrase Joe Biden, 106 freaking jobs. (The article linked above claims it's 150 jobs, but then goes on to mention in an aside that 44 of those jobs "already exist." Not that it isn't nice to see the government trying to pad the numbers on something like this once more...)
If spending $2.9 million per job is what our Government considers to be a success story in economic recovery, it really is no wonder that our economy is toast.
Elections Have Consequences, after all. Sadly, the consequences of the 2008 Democratic victory has turned out to be national insolvency.
I don't know about you, but electing Democrats is a mistake I hope we never repeat again.
What Brian? What is your rub? You know we all get $2.90 million dollars for each and every job! Ever since Obama was elected, fairness and equality in all walks of life and in every aspect of life has ensued. You do also realize that there is the $2.8 million "praise, honor, hope & change" fee that ever worker has to pay for receiving our jobs. Right?
RIGHT?!!?
You better have paid or we will have to report you to the President's Council on Obedience and Character Generation Committee.
