Too Cute: Skateistan

Future 17th Street Surf Shop customers?

I just ran across this event on the wires, and I've gotta say: Snapped Shot fully supports this effort! Sure, it might sound dopey on the surface, but given that the alternates are somewhat more depressing, how could you not?

Anyway, my hat's off to our stringers for doing such a great job of catching the kids in action!

Young Afghan skateboarders take to the streets during an event held by the 'Skateistan' NGO in Kabul on June 21, 2011. The Afghan Skate School organized their third annual Go Skateboarding Day Kabul, the only event of its kind in Afghanistan. The kids of Skateistan took to the streets, wearing traditional clothing as they represented the Afghan skate scene to the world - shalwar camises for boys and brightly coloured celebration clothes for the girls. I'm commenting, not because I have anything to say, but because I want you to continue posting articles.  You and AoS are my favorite pundits.  I'm worried that you're thinking about quitting.

Don't stop.  It's really fun to read your take on things.

Aww shucks -- Thanks, man!  Yesterday was a crazy day, my lack of posting was totally by accident. I'm hoping to get caught up here shortly -- In fact, let me toss one out there real quick!

It's nice to know that despite the Afghanistan's situation, there are still people that make an effort to make children happy and one of this is promoting skating. Kudos to whoever shot this picture :)

Even though I should probably just nuke your spam link, I like your comment, Charles.

Or "Charles." Whatever.

So instead, I have taken the liberty of redirecting our readers to a local skate shop that I have fond memories of. If you want to advertise on this website, I must insist that you go through me first.

You call that spam? It's called signature dude. You should've erased the whole comment raher than putting link redirect of your own on some other's comment. Yes, you have the liberty but don't abuse it, if you think a comment is spam just erase it and don't modify it.

D'oh -- Sorry about that, Charles. I couldn't decide whether your comment was spammy or not, as your signature didn't seem to fit in directly with what you had said. My apologies for the mistake, I guess I'm a little bit trigger-happy, which happens when one deletes a thousand spam comments a day.

Which reminds me, I really need to get the spam control system here working better. :)

(I've taken my altered link out of your comment above, and hope you'll forgive the editorial excess!)

Respectfully,
Brian the Idiot
