The Ghost of Snapped Shot

Or, welcome to my low-maintenance heck.

Reconciliation Fever

One and a half cheers.

The photo above represents the official storyline that the media is pushing related to the purported Fatah-Hamas merger, which according to the universally-accepted mythology of the present will be uniting the Palestinian people for the first time in about four years now:

A Fatah flag waves as Palestinians celebrate the reconciliation agreement between rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas during a rally in Gaza City May 4, 2011. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who heads Fatah, and Islamist group Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal were in Cairo on Wednesday to endorse a deal to end a four-year rift but a last minute hitch cast doubt on the durability of the accord. Of course, if you want to see what the real reality of the situation on the ground is, I'd recommend looking fast, before it gets nuked by the "official" storyline. Case in point:

Tear down this flag.

It is, incidentally, with no small amount of irony that I mention that the second photo, which does not conform to the offical storyline, was posted by a foreigner, as opposed to the Official Fatah-Hamas Supporter Storyline posted by Suhaib Salem, the long-time Palestinian stringer above.

One wonders how long it will be before Mr. Longari's visa is "mysteriously" cancelled.

A Gaza resident reacts while others try to refrain him from displaying the yellow flag of the secular Palestinian movement Fatah for fear of reprisals as people celebrate the unity deal in a demonstration at the Unknown Soldier square in Gaza City where for the first time since 2007 the yellow Fatah flag is allowed to be displayed on May 4, 2011 as Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip gather to celebrate and welcome a reconciliation deal signed by rival movements Hamas and Fatah in Cairo.
