update: Firsthand report of this protest here (via Google Autotranslate):
El Nuevo Herald reported yesterday that "three buses carried about 400 people, who began to harass the protesters with pro-government slogans, halons hair and bruises." Revolutionaries are called "spontaneous" as communist propaganda, better known as shock troops. As proof for unbelievers, Oscar Haza showed the same girl with the same blue blouse scandal and just out-repudiation in two different rallies, one against Reinaldo Escobar and another against Ladies in White.
What place does a truly "free" society have for "shock troops?"
I will need to look into his report of a repeat protester, though...

At first, I was befuddled by this caption, as "dissidents" is traditionally defined as people who are against their government (in this case the dictatorial Fidel Castro & Company, d/b/a Cuba since 1953).
But after perusing the other photos in the set, I stumbled across this one, and the overall picture snapped into a far more frightening focus:
Laura Pollan, center, member of The Ladies in White human rights group, looks on as Cuba's government's supporters, surrounding her, shout slogans in favor of Cuban leader Fidel Castro during a march to commemorate the Human Rights Day, organized by dissidents in Havana, Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009. Aha!
We're not witnessing a confused caption at all -- No, what we really see here is actually a pro-human rights rally organized against the tyrannical Cuban government that was shut down by the organized thuggery of the Cuban government!
And the Associated Press can't find any story to tell amongst all that?
Look at this guy, for instance. The AP stringer suggests that he "fainted."
Really? Really?! Because from where I'm sitting, it certainly looks more like he is suffering from a different condition, known more commonly as "the beat down."
And yet, Javier Galeano seems content to be blind to it all, aided and abetted by his spineless editors up here in New York.
I swear: With the AP being this bloody asleep at the bloody wheel, it's no wonder they're on their way out of business.
Good riddance!

"Fainted" my foot! That looks like a typical invitation from the local Gestapo to "help them with their enquiries at their offices".
