Defund Law Enforcement

At least, that seems to be the gist of what the Baltimore Sun is saying. After all, everyone is going to commit crime sooner or later, whether we fight it or not. Money quote:

Illegal immigrants won't necessarily stop driving, but they likely won't be licensed, trained or have car insurance - bad news for the rest of us. Their lives, as members of the country's 11 million undocumented underclass, are just going to get a little worse.

Hey geniuses—Ignorance of the law has never been an excuse for breaking it in the past, and it shouldn't be now. If the State of Maryland, via its lawfully-elected Legislature, has decided that it is a requirement that drivers pass a test to get a license before they are allowed to drive on the streets thereof, it logically follows that the State of Maryland, via the same, has the right to dictate the terms of punishment for violating the terms thereof. The same goes for mandatory insurance—Choosing to ignore the legal requirement to have insurance does not absolve one from guilt under the law.

But hey, if the Editorial board of the Baltimore Sun would rather us return to the days in which we all took the law into our own hands, then I'm all for taking a "creative" approach to solving the future driving-while-unlicensed problem:

Sure beats condemning Marylanders to death by motorist, doesn't it?
