For example, according to the English Revenue and Customs Department—the rough equivalent of our IRS and Social Security Administration combined—here's what to do in the event that your Identity number has been stolen:

You are not worthy enough to see the information that relates to your security or health. Until we prove that you are you and that you do in fact require this information, and that the information can not be gathered from any other source, then your request for your information will be considered.

Please allow 5-7 months for a response.

On a similar note, I have full custody of my son and that has been so since my son was 3 months old. So, I have been working with Child Support Division of the Dept Of Human Services in my state.

I received a letter the other day telling me that my case was going to be closed soon. The reason? They "could not determine my identity or whereabouts even after numerous interviews with the recipient of services". umm, yeah... that would be me.

It took me 3 weeks to clear this little bitty snafu up.

GO GOV'T!!! We love ya.
