The Associated Press seeks a photo editor for its photo desk in New York City.
This photo editor monitors and edits flow of photos transmitted to the New York Central Photo Desk by AP staff and member photographers and photo editors system-wide. This person reviews and edits photos for picture quality and caption accuracy before transmitting as appropriate. This photo editor works closely with staff photographers and member photo staffs to enhance the quality and quantity of the APâs photo report.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate should have proven photo editing skills and broad experience in news photography, with a background in newspapers, news magazines and/or news services. Applicants should have strong organizational abilities and a willingness to take visual risks. This person should have the ability to work effectively and constructively with key editors and photographers in AP bureaus and at member newspapers, and with freelance photographers. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills to coordinate with editors and photographers, and to field member inquiries. The ability to read and/or speak Spanish is a plus. Knowledge of PhotoShop, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Mac OS and Windows is a necessity.
